Max contacted Gem’s Cats because he needed reliable morning visits for his cat, Mellow, while he was away. Based on Waterside North in Lincoln City Centre, the initial request was for once-daily morning visits to feed Mellow and make sure she was safe, settled and cared for in her own home.
What Mellow Needed
Mellow was much happier staying in her own familiar space, as travelling and being away from home could cause her stress. Because she could be slightly standoffish at first, it was important that her care was handled calmly and patiently, without forcing interaction or rushing her.
Max needed someone who would take the time to understand Mellow’s habits, routine and personality before the visits began. This helped make sure her care could be tailored around what made her feel most comfortable.
How Gem Helped
Gem arranged a meet and greet before the booking, giving Max the chance to talk through Mellow’s needs, feeding routine, habits and any important details. During this visit, Gem took plenty of notes and asked questions so she could understand how best to care for Mellow while Max was away.
During the morning feeding & care visits, Gem made sure Mellow was fed, checked on and gently supported in her own home. Updates and photographs were sent each day, giving Max reassurance that Mellow was safe, settled and doing well.
Rather than expecting Mellow to be affectionate straight away, Gem gave her the time and space she needed. This calm approach helped Mellow build confidence, and after a few visits she began to warm up.
The Result
Mellow was able to stay in the comfort of her own home, avoiding the stress of travelling or being placed in an unfamiliar environment. Max received daily messages and photos, helping him feel reassured while he was away.
Over the course of the visits, Mellow became more comfortable with Gem, showing how patience, routine and a gentle approach can make a real difference for cats who are more reserved or easily stressed.
